The Eden Project

The Eden Project is one of the UK’s most famous visitor attractions and the Rainforest Biome is home to the largest indoor rainforest in the world. Visitors will now walk on Gripsure® non slip decking when crossing a bridge linking the walkways in the Tropical South America section of the Rainforest Biome.

Gripsure has provided a large non slip panel for the bridge, which crosses a stream from the rainforest’s waterfall. The Eden Project chose Gripsure Xtreme, which is made from extremely durable MEDITE® TRICOYA® EXTREME and features strips of Gripsure non slip treatment for an extremely safe non slip finish. With hundreds of thousands of visitors experiencing the Cornwall attraction every year the panel has to withstand heavy footfall.

The Rainforest Biome is tailored to house over 1,000 species of tropical plants so temperatures range from 18°C to 35°C and humidity is 60% humidity. This means the decking is in a constantly damp environment. MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME has enhanced stability, is resistance to fungal decay and can withstand complete immersion in water. The panels are sustainably sourced and have a desired in-service life of 60 years.

Paul Stone, Garden Development Manager for the Eden Project, said: “We have particularly damp and humid conditions in our Rainforest Biome at the Eden Project, Cornwall. This results in the degrading of even high quality treated timber very quickly. Since its installation last winter the product has performed well with no sign of rotting or wear. The non slip inserts have remained 100% in place.”
