Marriott Primary School
Marriott Primary School is a primary school located in the city of Leicester, in the East Midlands region of England. The school serves children aged 4-11 from the surrounding area and provides a range of educational and extracurricular opportunities. With a focus on creating a safe and nurturing learning environment, Marriott Primary School aims to help every child reach their full potential.
Children at a Leicester primary school are benefiting from a new outdoor learning space, which has regenerated an area of the playground that was previously overgrown and unusable.
Marriott Primary School’s Learning Zone has been designed to meet the needs of the Early Year Curriculum and to support educational activities for children aged three to five. It includes a pirate ship, amphitheatre, climbing area, sand-pit, messy kitchen, large water zone, den building poles and a balance bike area.
Anti-slip decking from Gripsure provides a safe, attractive and hardwearing surface for the new space. With built-in drainage, the Gripsure Aquadeck™ decking also helps with water management. The chocolate-coloured rubber infills mean the decking is soft and non-abrasive, offering a more gentle landing.

Gripsure have been really pleasant to work with and gave us a great service. They was very responsive to all our needs and delivered really quickly, helping us to meet the school’s tight deadline to get the space ready for the children to enjoy in the summer term.
Speaking on behalf of Red Monkey Play, who designed the space for Marriott Primary School, Project Manager Katie Moore said: “We wanted a surface with a natural looking finish that would complement our designs, so the chocolate-coloured decking was perfect. Safety was, of course, our number one priority and with water play being a key feature of the space we were delighted to find anti-slip decking that also aids drainage.”
Sheila Crichton, Headteacher at Marriott Primary School said: “Learning outside the classroom supports the development of healthy and active lifestyles, by offering children opportunities for physical activity, freedom and movement, and promoting a sense of wellbeing. Very young children learn predominantly through their sensory and physical experiences and the equipment supports this.”
