Creating a safer riverside destination at one of London’s most iconic football clubs.

The redevelopment of Fulham Football Club’s Riverside Stand has transformed Craven Cottage into much more than a football stadium. The £100 million Fulham Pier development has opened the Thames waterfront to the public, creating a vibrant destination featuring restaurants, bars, hospitality spaces and a stunning riverside promenade that can be enjoyed throughout the year.

With thousands of visitors expected every week, safety was a key consideration throughout the project. The external walkways needed to provide outstanding slip resistance without compromising on appearance, while standing up to constant foot traffic and the demands of a busy public environment.

The riverside promenade forms a key pedestrian route through the development, connecting sections of the Thames Path for the first time in many years. As a publicly accessible space exposed to the elements, the decking needed to deliver:

• Reliable slip resistance in all weather conditions
• Exceptional durability for heavy daily footfall
• A premium finish to complement the contemporary architecture
• A sustainable material capable of performing in a demanding riverside environment

The structure also had to accommodate service access beneath the deck and support the loading requirements of food trucks and event infrastructure.

Working alongside The Outdoor Deck Company, Gripsure supplied anti-slip technology integrated into MOSO^® Bamboo X-treme decking across approximately 1,782m² of the riverside promenade. Each board features Gripsure’s proven double anti-slip inserts, providing enhanced grip while maintaining the clean, contemporary appearance of the bamboo decking.

The decking was installed on an adjustable Buzon pedestal system, allowing the finished surface to sit above essential services while delivering the structural performance required for a high-traffic public space.

Today, Fulham Pier welcomes thousands of visitors to one of London’s newest riverside destinations.

By combining the natural beauty and sustainability of bamboo and anti-slip technology, the project delivers a surface that is safe, durable and designed to perform for decades. The result is an external environment where visitors can enjoy the riverside with confidence, whatever the weather.
