Bassenthwaite Lake Boathouse

The Lake District Calvert Trust refurbished Bassenthwaite Lake Boathouse and jetty after it was flooded and suffered severe damage during Storm Desmond in 2015. The renovated boathouse and jetty will enable people of all ages and abilities to enjoy a variety of activities on and around the lake including sailing, kayaking and bushcraft sessions.

The Lake District Calvert Trust has been delivering challenging outdoor adventure holidays for people with disabilities for more than 40 years and pride themselves on being able to cater for the majority of disabilities from mild learning difficulties, to more profound and complex conditions.

Gripsure Supplied 317 linear meters of Gripsure Boardwalk Heritage to Stobbarts Limited, and the non-slip decking was used around the boathouse to improve visitor accessibility. The result is a highly slip-resistant deck that will ensure safe use in both wet and dry conditions meaning that the boathouse and jetty can be used all year round, allowing more disabled children and adults to benefit from the fully-accessible facility. The restored jetty features a specialist hoist to enable wheelchair users to be safely transferred on and off of the lake.

  • From our perspective, the surface is working very well and provides for a very effective non-slip surface in a location that is often wet and where users have mobility issues.
